In Memory of Icilda Rhoden (aka Aunty Girley)
June 14, 1944 - March 7, 2022
It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Matriarch, Mrs Icilda Rhoden (aka Aunty Girley) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, March 7th, 2022, after a lengthy hospital stay at William Osler Health System (Etobicoke General Hospital). Devoted wife to Michael for 55 years, cherished Mother of 6 children (Sandra, Paulette, Owen, Marlene, Sophia and Yvonne), beloved Grandmother to Aaron-Michael, Dimello, Noah, Hannah, Julian, Ethan-Wyeth, Azariah-Grace (predeceased), Darian, Rebekah-Rose, Liliane, Jabari and Ida-Sophia. The 1st of 9 children to her parents Icilyn White and Clifford Gooden (predeceased) was born in the island of Jamaica on June 14, 1944.
Icilda spent her career spanning decades in the Hospitality industry until her retirement in 2010. A dedicated employee of Journey’s End (Comfort Inn), Norfinch Site, a subsidiary of one of the largest and most successful lodging franchises, Choice Hotels. She excelled in her career, receiving numerous awards, recognitions, certificate of achievements and employee service rewards for her contribution and dedication to the Industry.
Our mother was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, God-mother, Sister, Aunty, Cousin, a Friend and Confidant and an Influencer. She was deeply loved and loved ‘em right back. She was hilarious, generous, caring, private, but loved to entertain a crowd which was evident in our Christmas dinners.
Her love for her family and faith in God were paramount. As one of the foundational members of the Abiezer Pentecostal Church for over 30+ years, she demonstrated her faithfulness and beliefs through her contributions, commitment, diligence, dedication and service to the needs of the Church and those she encountered.
Our mother is physically gone, free from ailments and pains, however, her memories, influences, lessons taught and lived remains tangible. Selfishly, we wanted to keep her with us, but she’d ‘prepared her reservation for her final destination’ and we could not hold on to her much longer. She has, “fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith…store up is the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award on that day”. 2Tim 4:7-8 NIV.
