Obituary of Valerie Mercedes Morrison

MORRISON, Valerie Mercedes It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Mercedes Morrison on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Scarborough Grace Hospital (Birchmount). She was 82 years old Valerie was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 24, 1938. As an only child, she grew up the land of ‘wood and water’ spending time with her cousins the Lewis family and the McGhie family. She was a planner and organizer from early on and she was employed as part of the administrative pool at the University of West Indies prior to her moving to Toronto, Canada on July 1, 1967. She joined the Government of Ontario in August 1967 and up to her retirement with the Province, she was known as woman who kept it organized and was the consummate professional. She was a generous and thoughtful woman who loved to travel, garden, and stay connected with her friends and family in Canada and the United States. She also never was one to miss the opportunity to get dressed up and go out and enjoy a good event. For many years she was a faithful, and one of the founding members of St. Michael the Archangel, Anglican Church where she was loved and appreciated. Valerie was a strong, independent woman who loved her family and friends with all her heart. She is survived by her husband Neville G. Morrison, daughters Paula and Melissa Morrison, her sons-in-law Garnet Belik and Warren Stanley, and her grandchildren, Mackenzie, and Zoe Belik. The family would like to sincerely thank everyone who called, prayed, and thought of Valerie. To her family and friends in Canada, New York and Jamaica who prayed with her and for her, who comforted her, and sent her emails to make her laugh, we are deeply grateful. God Bless you all.
