Obituary of Nigel Yohance Enniss

Please share a memory of Nigel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nigel Yohance Enniss on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, Ontario. Nigel, a twin, was born on December 22, 1980. Ni, Dexter, and their baby sister, Alicia, were born and spent their early years in Alberta, Canada. The family returned to Toronto in 1989. On August 28, 2016, in an unforgettable outdoor ceremony, Nigel married the love of his life, Miss Pierrette Walker. They are expecting their first-born son in September 2021. Nigel’s life truly epitomized a life of service. After completing a Bachelor of Social Work from Ryerson University and later a Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto, Nigel worked for more than 15 years with the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto. His engaging and caring personality touched everyone he met. Nigel’s commitment to improving the lives of Black youth and their families found him actively engaged in addressing issues of anti-Black racism in the provision of services to families in the GTA. While in service at the Society, he was an Anti-Black Racism Practice Integration Lead. Recently, he established his private practice, Enniss Walker, Inc. designed to “disrupt and dismantle anti-Black racism policies through the provision of consultation and training services to organizations.” Nigel’s commitment to honor God through a life of service was evident through his ministry at his church, Kanisa Fellowship; and through his community ministry, Streetlights Mentorship. Left to mourn his sudden passing are his devoted wife, Mrs. Pierrette Walker-Enniss, parents Frank Enniss and Dr. Loraine Wiltshire, twin brother, Dexter and his wife, Kelly; sister, Alicia, nephews, Jeremiah and Elijah, and stepmother, Aldith Lewis. He is also survived by in-laws, Sylvan Walker and Rowmen Simpson-Walker, sister-in-law, Bridgette, and brother-in-law, Michael; grandparents Edward and Louise Enniss, his many aunts and uncles, cousins, close friends, and colleagues. He will be deeply missed by his Kanisa Fellowship church family, his Streetlights Mentorship ministry and the countless youth he mentored. In his final social media post, he wrote, “Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials. And let endurance have its perfect result so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing,” James 1: 2, 4 (NASB version). You endured and ran a beautiful race, Nige. Sleep on our love, until we meet on that resurrection morning in Christ, our Saviour. *** To honour Nigel’s legacy, e-transfer gifts can be sent to nigelslegacy@gmail.com or gifts for baby Enniss may be viewed at bit.ly/BabyEnniss.
